With Fall comes cooler weather. Apples, pumpkins, leaves and the last of the summer harvest. Some even plant for fall if their climate suits it. I started with an apple calendar. In order to teach my son about fall, we read a few fall books and learned all about fall things. To which he asked me, “Why don’t our leaves turn colors?”
We obviously live in a warmer climate and our leaves do not turn until nearly Christmas. But, whether or not we have four full seasons, he does need to know that they are part of our daily life. Social awareness is part of language arts and social studies. But, because I love to teach thematically, I added science and math to my fall unit. I always add art to my units, because art is a great way to catch your child’s learning.
